Project Coordinator for the U-CAN Project
The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. One of the core ideas at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. Parts of the operations are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and hospital physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several program educations, independent courses, and international master's programs within the Faculty of Medicine and the technical-nature sciences area. The department has a turnover of approximately 550 million SEK, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The number of employees is about 400, of which about 100 are doctoral students, and there are over 850 active in the workforce. Job Description:
The U-CAN project is an infrastructure and a strategic research area for the collection of samples and data from cancer patients for research purposes. The project is active in about 15 different cancer diagnoses and involves close collaboration with many parts of Uppsala University Hospital, several nodes in Central Sweden, and Uppsala Biobank.
The tasks mainly involve communication, interaction with various professions, coordinating and leading meetings, and administration. The ongoing tasks primarily consist of a) supporting the program coordinator in the work of implementing U-CAN's operational activities, b) coordinating and following up on sample collection through communication and to some extent leadership, c) providing service and support to researchers and others active within U-CAN, d) coordinating and following up on applications, establishment, and implementation of research projects based on U-CAN's material, e) coordinating the operation of U-CAN's database and ensuring that the database's functionality meets the needs of the operations, f) conducting financial follow-up, reviewing invoices, and preparing budget work, g) preparing materials and statistics related to operational planning and reporting, h) coordinating reporting to stakeholders, funders, and others active within U-CAN.
It is of great importance that the project coordinator contributes to further developing the service and U-CAN's operations, as well as continuously working to improve sample collection and the accessibility of samples and data for research. Over time, tasks may be added, varied, or reprioritized depending on U-CAN's strategic needs. Parts of the administrative work are distributed among several coordinators.
The project coordinator will be employed by Uppsala University and organizationally placed at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology. However, a large part of the work is performed through interaction with employees at Uppsala University Hospital/Region Uppsala and Uppsala Biobank. Part-time work combined with another position can be discussed.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a motivated person with a PhD in medicine, biomedicine, healthcare, pharmacy, or a related field. Central to succeeding in the role is having good and documented experience in project management/project coordination and having previously worked with operational support and business development. Important qualities for this position are a structured approach, attention to detail, initiative, and independence. It is of great importance that you have the ability to collaborate, as well as professionally and service-minded create and maintain good relationships and collaborate with many different professions (researchers, doctors, nurses, patients, administrators, etc.). Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form, as well as very good computer skills, are required. In the recruitment process, great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to have the ability required to perform the tasks successfully.
Desirable and/or Meritorious:
Previous experience in various administrative roles, such as financial follow-up and budget work, handling/reviewing or drafting contracts, biobank applications, ethical applications, and research funding applications is meritorious. Research-related experience in oncology/cancer diagnostics, working with clinical data or databases, as well as experience in leadership/staff responsibility is also meritorious.
